Product Development from Tablet to Cloud.

Samsung and Particle Design have been working together for over three years across UX design, research, and strategy initiatives. We help Samsung understand user attitudes and behaviours about their products to help them make strategic product development decisions. With deep contextual and user centered strategy, we’ve helped Samsung innovate across tablet, phone, and cloud experiences.

Helping Samsung understand their users.

Samsung was about to release a new tablet and phone, and wanted to understand the products’ experiences more deeply. Along with needing to understand how people were using their products while at home, Samsung also wanted a head-to-head comparison of what users liked and disliked about various phones and tablets, including their own. To gather quantitative feedback, we conducted a two-city study that included over 100 participants and several user-research activities. We also conducted a two-week diary study that included daily surveys and user video contributions to understand what users found frustrating or delightful.

Using UX Strategy to turn the big picture into strategic decisions.

There were plenty of companies providing cloud services, and Samsung wanted to understand how to prioritize development of their own cloud. Particle conducted a variety of user activities to understand users’ perception and use of the cloud in general and Samsung’s cloud app specifically.

For each project, Particle provided Samsung with big picture insights about how they should be thinking about the product category and made recommendations for future product-line enhancements. From tablets, to phones, to the cloud, Particle has enabled Samsung to think strategically about product development by giving the company insights into user perceptions and experiences.
